Seven state employees from three state agencies and two University of North Carolina System institutions were honored with the Governor's Awards for Excellence during a ceremony at the North Carolina Museum of History.
"Every year, I am astounded by the extraordinary work done by my fellow state employees who are awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence," said Governor Cooper. "This year's recipients did critical work in a variety of areas, going above and beyond to make a positive impact on our state and the lives of North Carolinians. Congratulations on this well-deserved award."
The Governor's Award for Excellence recognizes accomplishments and actions that are outside the usual scope of their job duties and is the highest honor a state employee may receive for dedicated service to the state and the people of North Carolina. This year, awards are presented in six categories: Customer Service, Efficiency and Innovation, Human Relations, Outstanding Government Service, Public Service and Safety and Heroism.
"Each year, we honor a select few with the Governor's Awards for Excellence," said State Human Resources Director Barbara Gibson. "This year's recipients enact the changes they want to see in their communities to make our state a better place. Their commitment to service is a reflection of the values and culture we seek out in our agencies and our state."
A description of each recipient's winning qualities and videos that share their story will go live after the ceremony on the Office of State Human Resources website: oshr.nc.gov/2024GAE.
This annual event is made possible by funding from the State Employees' Credit Union Foundation. The honorees attended a luncheon in the Executive Mansion before receiving their awards at a special ceremony in the auditorium of the NC Museum of History. The ceremony was hosted by WRAL anchor Debra Morgan. The event will feature remarks from Governor Roy Cooper, State Human Resources Director Barbara Gibson and State Employees' Credit Union Foundation Secretary/Treasurer, Stelfanie Williams.
