Second Place finish for Women's Golf at SCAC Preview

Under beautiful skies on Sept. 17, the University of St. Thomas-Houston women's golf team concluded their performance in the 2024 SCAC Preview on the New Course at the White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas. The Celts led by a stroke after day one but could not hang on to the slim lead. St. Thomas and Southwestern battled throughout the second round before the Pirates finally captured the win by a single shot.

Final Results:

What made the loss particularly tough to digest for the Celts was that their top finisher, Emma Cook, played as an Individual and was not included in team scoring. Cook finished second individually with a score of 160 (+16), which would have been more than enough to secure a tournament win for the Celts. Cook was followed by Leah Torres, who moved up on the leaderboard 4 spots on day two, finishing with a +18 score of 162 and 3rd individually. Individually, Emma Luna finished 4th at +19 with an overall score of 163. Emma Koch finished with a (+23) 167, placing her 6th overall. Rounding out the scoring for UST was Cameron Frazier, who ended day two tied for 10th.

Assistant Coach Cade Kiser said, "The ladies played so well all day. We had a very good morning before arriving at the course, which is extremely important to secure. I think the ladies were in a good mental state to start today because our one-shot lead ballooned to a 14-shot lead at one point midway through the round. As their coach, I need to get them comfortable playing in the lead and playing to win. I know the ladies will learn from what happened this week, and I know they are all hungry to get back out there in San Antonio."
