Austin Bridge & Road Celebrates ABIA Groundbreaking

AUSTIN, TX - Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has officially launched a $4 billion expansion program, with Austin Bridge & Road playing a foundational role.

On September 27, Austin Bridge & Road took part in the groundbreaking for the Midfield Taxiways project, a $350 million construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) initiative. This project will serve as the enabling package for the entire expansion, which includes two Austin Commercial projects: a new parking garage and the arrival/departure hall.

Joe McLaughlin, Austin's Chief Financial Officer and interim President of Austin Bridge & Road, spoke at the event, saying:

"At Austin Industries, we're big fans of Austin Bergstrom, and we have a long history of successful projects here. Our great employee-owners are excited and ready to do some great work! To that end, let us remember that this project is about people - the people who will build it, the people who will work here, and the people who will benefit from it when they travel through one of the country's fastest-growing airports. At Austin, we firmly believe that our work creates opportunities, fosters connections, and builds a brighter future for generations to come."

Also present were Austin Preconstruction Manager Joel Lasich, Airfield Area Manager Clay Stark, Senior Vice President Bill Heathcott, Austin Commercial Project Manager Karen Diana, and Project Manager Matt Rowan.

As part of the Midfield Taxiways project, Austin Bridge & Road will construct two miles of parallel and connector taxiways, two bridges, install airfield lighting and signage, and create a new taxi route for low-visibility conditions. The project also involves recycling pavement, demolishing a building, relocating utilities, and improving drainage, along with modifications to roadways and parking lots. Completion is expected by 2027.
