LOS ANGELES- Today, Congressman Ted Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council allocated $2.8 million in direct relief to residents in the Portuguese Bend land movement area. The funding comes from a $5 million grant from Los Angeles County to support the City's response efforts after recent land movement events forced utility shutoffs and evacuations across the Palos Verdes Peninsula. "I am pleased to see immediate relief coming to Rancho Palos Verdes residents and thankful to Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn for working to secure this funding for the City,"said Congressman Lieu. "While these funds may not completely cover the overhead costs incurred by impacted residents-to switch to alternate power sources, fortify their home's foundation, or find temporary housing-they are an important step in efforts to respond to historic land movement throughout the region."

"I have visited the landslide area and witnessed the devastating effects of these events on our community. In the weeks following the increased land movement, I met with FEMA experts and state and county officials to better understand the lasting impacts of the landslides and what support may be available to residents. My staff and I are engaged in ongoing conversations with impacted residents, city, county and state officials, and our federal partners to ensure that the Rancho Palos Verdes community has access to all possible resources. I remain ready to support any requests by the State of California for federal assistance in responding to this emergency."
