The State Water Resources Control Board last week cancelled the probationary hearing for the Kaweah Subbasin because the amended Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSP) released in June and October show substantial progress in addressing the deficiencies identified in the Kaweah Subbasin Draft Staff Report.
The State Water Board will now be completing a more thorough review of the amended plans to see if the revisions are adequate in addressing groundwater sustainability in the subbasin.
Last December, an ACWA-led coalition submitted comments to the State Water Board requesting, among other things, that the State Water Board develop a process by which a basin could submit a revised GSP that addresses deficiencies before its probationary hearing. The cancellation of the Kaweah Subbasin's Hearing is a positive development that reflects the hard work of groundwater sustainability agencies to comply with SGMA.
