The most difficult stage of deepening shaft III at KWK Pniówek has been completed

Work on the deepening of the material transport shaft at the Pniówek mine has reached a key stage. Shaft III has been deepened to the target depth of 1,053 meters. The implementation of the project is an important step in the modernization of the mine's infrastructure, providing new development opportunities and improving working conditions.

Deepening of the shaft from a depth of 865.3 meters began in July 2020 after completion of preparatory works. As regards the deepening of Shaft III, 187.7 meters of the shaft in the final casing have been completed, along with one-sided inlets at the depths of 965.4 meters and 1,052 meters, and a two-sided inlet at the 1,000-meter level.

- The investment will enable efficient transport of materials and workers to the 1,000m level, which will significantly improve logistics and ventilation of the pits - said Zbigniew Czarnecki, director of the KWK Pniówek mine.

On 19 November, a ceremony was held at the bottom of Shaft III, during which the mine director received official confirmation of the completion of the task.

- This project, which has been ongoing for several years, was one of the most important tasks in Pniówek. The most difficult stage - deepening the shaft - has been completed, and work is currently underway to reinforce the shaft pipe on the deepened section - said Adam Rozmus, JSW's Vice-President for Technical and Operational Matters.

The project is being carried out by a consortium of companies: Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów from the JSW Group and PPG Row-Jas.
