Stamborski Fills JJC Board Vacancy

Oct 08, 2024

The Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees appointed Joshua Stamborski at a special board meeting held Monday, Oct. 7. This appointment fills the vacancy left by Jake Mahalik, who resigned in August.

Joshua Stamborski is a JJC alumnus and served as student trustee in 2022-23. He is currently studying physics at Lewis University. In his application, Stamborski cited his familiarity with JJC board operations and policies as a strength during this appointment.

"JJC holds an important place in my life and I am committed to doing my best by the institution I cherish. Serving the taxpayers and student body in the fiduciary role of the board would be an honor," said Stamborski.

Five candidates were interviewed for the position. Stamborski will join the existing board for his first official meeting on Oct. 16.

In joining the board, Stamborski will serve as a public steward alongside fellow trustees, shaping policy, providing oversight and guiding the strategic direction of the College. As with all community college trustees across the state and nation, JJC trustees play a crucial role in representing the interests of the community and ensuring the College fulfills its mission.

Candidates interested in the vacancy were required to submit their applications by Sept. 6. The newly appointed trustee will serve until the next regular election in April 2025.

JJC is governed by a seven-member board of trustees, all of whom are elected from within the seven-county college district for at-large, staggered, six-year terms. A student representative, appointed annually, is a non-voting member of the board.
