"OSU's ranking at No. 91 in The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to our sustainability goals," OSU Sustainability Coordinator Katie Beitz said. "However, we also recognize that there is always room for growth. Rankings offer insights into how we compare with peer institutions, and this motivates us to continue improving our sustainability efforts."

Rob Franek, The Princeton Review's editor-in-chief, noted that the review is seeing substantive interest among college applicants in attending green colleges. Of the nearly 8,000 college-bound students the company polled for its 2024 College Hopes & Worries Survey, 61% said having information about a college's commitment to the environment would affect their decision to apply to or attend a school. A report on the survey is available here.

"We are delighted to recommend Oklahoma State University to students who want their 'best-fit' college to also be a 'green' one," Franek said. "Oklahoma State University, which offers excellent academics, also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability in its campus programs, policies and practices."

These practices include being named a certified Bee Campus, Monarch Waystation, EPA Green Power Partner and Tree Campus Higher Education. Along with these recognitions, OSU has also received a silver certification for AASHE's Stars Report, as well as being named a level two Arb Net accredited arboretum campus.

The profiles in the guide report The Princeton Review's green ratings of the schools, which the company tallies on a scale of 60 to 99. OSU received a green rating score of 91. The profiles also provide notes on the schools' uses of renewable energy, their recycling and conservation programs, and the availability of environmental studies in their academic offerings. The profiles also include information on the school's admission requirements, cost and financial aid.
