Enforcement School Zone Safety Camera Program to Begin Nov. 4th

At the beginning of the 2024 school year, the City of Hollywood introduced a new School Zone Safety Camera Program to address the dangerous problem of speeding through school zones. This program is designed to reduce the number of speeding vehicles in these areas.

The goal is to increase safety for students, parents, teachers, and the public traveling through Hollywood school zones. School zones will be clearly marked with additional posted speed limit signs, regulatory time placards, and photo-enforced signs. Cameras will be used to identify any non-compliant motorist traveling at 11 MPH or more over the speed limit.

Speed cameras are active and enforced on school days 30 minutes prior to school starting during the school day and until 30 minutes after school has ended.

The following school speed enforcement cameras will no longer issue warnings and will be issuing Notices of Violation on first offense beginning November 4, 2024:

  • Apollo Middle School
  • Attucks Middle School
  • Colbert Elementary
  • Driftwood Elementary

The following school speed enforcement cameras will enter the 30-day warning period once the required signage is installed:

  • Championship Academy
  • Hollywood Hills Elementary
  • Hollywood Park Elementary
  • Orange Brook Elementary
  • Sheridan Hills Elementary
  • West Hollywood Elementary

The warning period for Ben Gamla Elementary has been extended due to a delay in installing signage.

This phased approach aims to ensure all drivers are aware of the program and its importance. Other jurisdictions will soon be coming online and will also be subject to warnings and violations for speeding drivers.
