New Iberia- On September 4, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a single-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on Louisiana Highway 3195. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 30-year-old Taylor Alexander of New Iberia.

The preliminary investigation revealed that deputies from the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office were attempting to stop a 2012 Honda Accord driven by Alexander on LA Hwy 87. Alexander then fled from deputies at a high rate of speed. As the pursuit continued northbound onto LA Hwy 3195 from LA Hwy 87, Alexander failed to navigate a curve, crossed into the southbound lane, exited the roadway to the left, and overturned after entering a ditch.

During the crash, Alexander, who was unrestrained, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A standard toxicology sample was collected from Alexander, which revealed a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.

On October 4, 2024, Troop I was notified that Alexander had succumbed to his injuries on October 2, 2024. The Louisiana State Police is the lead agency investigating the crash, which remains ongoing.
