Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena Ibarra will attend the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 22-30. The theme is "Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations."

During the high-level week, Secretary Bárcena will meet with her counterparts of other UN member states and heads of international organizations and UN agencies. They will discuss priority issues for Mexico, including the peaceful settlement of disputes, migration and human mobility, feminist foreign policy, disarmament and non-proliferation, climate change, the global drug problem, the trafficking of small arms and light weapons, and food security.

On September 22, Secretary Bárcena will participate in the Summit of the Future. The summit will evaluate the effectiveness of the multilateral system, propose concrete actions to tackle current and emerging global challenges, and adopt the Pact for the Future, which will promote fair, inclusive, and sustainable development.

On Monday, September 23, the Mexican Foreign Secretary will speak on World Economic Forum panels discussing strategies to address the geopolitical recession and climate change.

On September 24, Secretary Bárcena will attend two key events: a summit of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats, and the high-level event "In Defense of Democracy: Fighting Against Extremism." The latter aims to strengthen efforts against inequality and disinformation to curb the rise of intolerance in the international arena.

Secretary Bárcena will also meet with representatives from Indonesia, Korea, Türkiye, and Australia, countries that-along with Mexico-form the MIKTA group. Their meeting will focus on enhancing cooperation and accelerating progress on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

On Wednesday, September 25, the Foreign Secretary will attend several key events. She will participate in the annual meeting of leaders of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy and the second G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. She will also join the event on comprehensive cooperation initiatives for Haiti and participate in the UN Feminist Foreign Policy Group, where she will reaffirm Mexico's commitment to gender equality and discuss both progress and challenges in implementing feminist foreign policies.

The following day, September 26, the Secretary will attend the annual Ministerial Meeting of the Like-Minded Group in support of Middle-Income Countries; the Meeting between the extended troika of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union; and the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution.

She will also present the Mexican Model of Human Mobility, which takes a regional approach to migration and prioritizes structural causes to make migration a choice rather than an obligation.

On Friday, September 27, Secretary Bárcena will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss climate change, sustainable development, and migration.

Finally, on September 28, she will participate in the UNGA General Debate, calling on the international community to promote peace and sustainable development, and to jointly address our global challenges. This will conclude her agenda for UNGA 79.
