The Flint Gap Fire is still estimated to be 58 acres and is now 50% contained. Yesterday, firefighters were able to safely access the fire, located in a steep, remote area of the park, to successfully secure much of the fire edge. Few areas are burning along the fire edge; however, a wildfire is not contained until fire managers determine that a fire is not likely to spread beyond its perimeter.

Fire managers continue to execute a full suppression strategy. Crews completed trail improvements that allowed for safe access to the fire, as well as the ability to rapidly extricate firefighters for medical or fire behavior purposes.

Today, the Olympic Wildland Fire Module arrived in the park. Wildland fire modules are highly skilled and trained personnel who specialize in working on remote, inaccessible wildfires. They are able to work on remote fires for up to seven days at a time without additional resupply. The module will be staying at the fire for the next several days to continue to secure the fire perimeter and extinguish hot spots.

The park received a report of the fire near Hannah Mountain, south of Abrams Creek, the evening of Aug. 26. An investigation revealed several days later that the fire was started by lightning. No structures are threatened at this time.
Parson Branch Road as well as some park trails and backcountry campsites are currently closed due to fire activity. Check the park website for road closures and other updates before visiting. All fire updates are available on the park website.
