UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Cybersecurity Workshop in Gillette Oct. 22

Small-business owners can get an introductory look at basic cybersecurity readiness issues and strategies to stay safe from cyber threats Tuesday, Oct. 22.

P.J. Burns and Becky Prelle will lead a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network workshop titled "Small Business Cybersecurity: Staying Safe Online - Gillette" from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Campbell County Library, located at 2101 S. 4-J Road. To register, go here. Registration is free.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The workshop will cover cybersecurity statistics and impacts on small businesses; six myths about online safety, including identifying cyber threats and how to prepare to make businesses safer online; the "core four" cyber-readiness strategies; and an overview of the Wyoming SBDC Cybersecurity for Small Business Program.

Burns is the Wyoming SBDC Network regional director for Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties. She has spent a majority of her career advising and advocating for small businesses in her roles at chambers of commerce and economic development organizations. She has a background in marketing, human resources, strategic planning, leadership and management.

Prelle is a references services specialist at the Campbell County Public Library.

Workshop attendees also will have an opportunity to schedule free one-on-one appointments with Burns to assist with developing cash-flow projections for their businesses to help explain to their lenders where the money to repay their loans will come from -- in a format they will understand.
