eco Survey Shows: Major Concerns in German Companies about Quantum Technology

  • Current Civey survey shows: Around a quarter of German IT managers expect quantum technology to have a strong impact on their industry in the next 5-10 years
  • Unclear use cases and lack of expertise for a third as biggest hurdles to implementation
  • eco event Quantum Technology - The Next Stage of the Digital Revolution, on 28 November in Frankfurt, clarifies entry-level questions for business decision-makers

Quantum technology is in the process of making fundamental changes to traditional computing and offers opportunities that redefine our idea of efficiency and security. While traditional computers form the basis of today's digital infrastructure, quantum technology is opening up a whole new dimension: quantum computers utilise qubits that are capable of performing complex calculations in seconds that would take even today's supercomputers years to complete. Applications range from high-precision medical research and the optimisation of global logistics networks to previously unattainable standards in cybersecurity.

Company survey reveals need for action

Nevertheless, a recent Civey survey of IT decision-makers commissioned by eco - Association of the Internet Industry reveals an urgent need for action: 33.3 per cent of respondents currently see unclear use cases as the biggest hurdle to the introduction of quantum technology, followed by a lack of specialist knowledge (26.9 per cent). At the same time, however, 26.3 per cent expect this technology to have a major impact on their industry in the next five to ten years*.

'Despite its immense potential, quantum technology still faces challenges. The costs, scalability and integration into existing systems require joint efforts from research, industry and politics. Only those who invest early and build up the expertise will be able to benefit from the advantages in the long term,' says eco founder and digital visionary Harald A. Summa. The survey results make it clear that companies must now take a close look at the opportunities offered by quantum technology in order to secure their competitiveness and position Germany as a leading quantum location.

Invitation to the eco event on 28 November in Frankfurt

The urgent need for knowledge and practical use cases shows how important it is to invest in the development of skills and infrastructure at an early stage in order to establish Germany as a leading quantum centre. Which is why eco - Association of the Internet Industry is organising an all-day expert event in Frankfurt. Under the moderation of Harald A. Summa, leading minds from science and industry will discuss current developments and possible applications. The event will be held in German.

Why quantum technology is important now

  • Economic transformation: quantum algorithms optimise supply chains, financial strategies and industrial production processes with previously unimaginable efficiency.
  • Life sciences: Drugs and new materials can be precisely simulated and developed, revolutionising science and industry.
  • Cybersecurity: Quantum encryption is used to create communication systems that can withstand even the most advanced hacker attacks.

Further information on the German-language event and the registration page can be found here. Participation is free for eco members.

* Civey conducted an online survey of 500 private sector decision-makers who make decisions on IT issues for eco - Association of the Internet Industry from 29 October to 13 November 2024. The results are representative due to quotas and weightings, taking into account the statistical error of 7.9 to 8.2 percentage points in the respective overall result.
