Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Dorchester

At about 5:29 PM, on Friday, September 27, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Lawrence Chaney, 38, of Dorchester, on drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Washington Street and Park Street when they observed a vehicle in front of them with a darkened license plate cover. Officers were unable to read the vehicle's registration, and activated their marked cruiser's lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

At this time, officers were able to read the registration and later determined that the vehicle was stolen. Officers made contact with the operator and requested that he exited the vehicle. Officers searched the suspect and recovered seventeen plastic bags of crack cocaine from the suspect's fanny pack.

Chaney was placed under arrest and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Receiving Stolen Property. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
