Aker Solutions Marine Contractors Limited - coasting trade licence

October 17, 2024

Application by Aker Solutions Marine Contractors Limited, pursuant to the Coasting Trade Act, SC 1992, c 31 (Act), for a licence

Case number:
24-54354

Aker Solutions Marine Contractors Limited applied, through its representative, to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (Minister), for a licence to use the Olympic Triton, a heavy lift ship registered in Norway, to support the ship spread for the West White Rose Project. The operation will involve the tow-out and installation of the concrete gravity structure (CGS). This includes the CGS float-out from the dock, inshore towing and site operations, offshore towing, and final installation in the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, located approximately 350 km east of Newfoundland and Labrador. The activity will start on May 1, 2025, and will end on July 31, 2025.

To support the licensing process, the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) must determine, under section 8 of the Act, whether a suitable Canadian ship is available to provide the service.

Agency staff gave notice of the application to the Canadian marine industry, and no Canadian ships were offered. Therefore, the Agency determines that there is no suitable Canadian ship available to perform the activity.

The Minister considers the Agency's Determination in deciding whether to issue the licence. This Determination is not an authority to operate.
