Week of September 30, 2024: Mayor Cherelle L. Parker Weekly Wrap-Up

It was a busy week for Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the Parker Administration. Catch up on the key moments below.

Tuesday, October 1: iPledge Campaign Launch

In partnership with the Office of Domestic Violence Strategies, the Parker Administration supported the launch event for the new citywide public awareness campaign from Women Against Abuse known as iPledge. The campaign calls on everyday Philadelphians to take a stand against relationship violence each October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Wednesday, October 2: Phillies Rally for Red October Bus Tour

As the Philadelphia Phillies prepare for their National League Divisional Series this weekend, their Rally for Red October Bus Tour stopped by several locations in the City and surrounding areas on Wednesday afternoon to get fans excited for the postseason. One of the stops included City Hall where Mayor Parker stood atop the bus to greet fans, give out rally-towels, and cheer on the Phillies.

Thursday, October 3: Father Judge Career Pathways Academy Ribbon Cutting

Thursday evening, Mayor Parker visited Father Judge High School to officially open their new Career Pathways Academy with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The academy will guide youth with a quality education system that will incorporate career exploration and preparation into job industries like skill trade unions, research and development in Life Sciences, public service, City government jobs and many more.

Friday, October 4: LGBTQ+ Flag Month Flag Raising

Friday afternoon Mayor Parker celebrated National LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day with a flag-raising event outside City Hall. While at the event, Mayor Parker signed an Executive Order renaming the City's Office of LGBT Affairs to the Office of LGBTQ+ Affairs. She also appointed 19 new Commissioners to join the existing 6 Commissioners on the LGBTQ+ Commission. The name change and appointments were reaffirmations of the City's promise to stand with the LGBTQ+ community and the fight for the dignity, safety and rights for all.

Friday, October 4: Lawncrest Recreation Center Groundbreaking

Mayor Parker was then off to Northeast Philadelphia for a Rebuild groundbreaking ceremony for new construction coming to the Lawncrest Recreation Center. Upgrades will include a new gymnasium, a modernized playground and enhanced sports courts. The center is vital to the community and will provide a safe space for children and families to enjoy and grow strong together.
