Brown Announces New Investment in High-Speed Internet in Jefferson County

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced a new investment in high-speed internet in Jefferson County. The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded $2.5 million to the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners for the Jefferson County Broadband Connectivity project that will establish public-private partnerships with Internet Service Providers in order to provide broadband internet to Springfield, Ross, Knox, Island Creek, Salem, and Wayne townships in Jefferson County. It will benefit 34 businesses and 769 households across six communities.

"Every Ohio family should have reliable, high-speed internet. You shouldn't have to live in a big city or a wealthy suburb to have access to a crucial aspect of modern society and our economy," said Brown. "This much-needed investment will expand high-speed internet access and other tools that local businesses and workers need. I'll continue to fight for funding for the Appalachian Regional Commission, so it can continue to empower our communities."

The ARC awarded this investment through the Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative, which Brown has long been a champion of.
