How Aditya Builds Digital Resilience as a Software Engineer

As a software development engineer, Aditya Bhatia is a team lead on the Control Loop team, a critical group within Products and Technology. This team brings the building, testing, and packaging together with the delivery to and observability of our customers. They are giving developers the tools to both measure and take appropriate action of their products throughout the software development life cycle.

There isn't one typical day on the Control Loop team - the variety of work Aditya is responsible for keeps his job exciting. The day usually starts off with a team standup to resolve blockers and make plans. Then there might be meetings with cross-functional teams for collaboration (like with the Release Management team, who he regularly talks with about impacts of release upgrades on our customers). Aditya also spends a good part of his time on development and design work in his team, reviewing the design and code of new features, discussing technical design choices, and figuring out how to remove obstacles his team faces.

One of the big focuses of Aditya's team is building and scaling a distributed workflow orchestration system on Kubernetes. The platform supports high-performance needs of Splunk's cloud infrastructure for thousands of customers. "Our work focuses on making the Splunk infrastructure of our customer more resilient by automating critical processes, enhancing scalability and implementing security upgrades that improve compliance," Aditya said. "The solutions we create empower Splunk's customers to handle increasing data demands with reliability and agility, fostering a digital ecosystem that can withstand disruptions and scale with the future."

Aditya joined Splunk four years ago, and he's been able to expand his role and scope in that time. He attributes his ability to grow to "the team atmosphere… built on a foundation of mutual respect and shared success." Over time, he was given opportunities to lead high-impact initiatives, like driving a cost-saving effort of our cloud resources and establishing best practices that streamline development and onboarding across teams. Projects like this allowed him to grow technically, while also honing his leadership skills.

"Splunk offered an environment that embraced innovation, allowing me to experiment with new technologies and approaches to solve complex challenges.." - Aditya Bhatia, Splunk Software Development Engineer

Aditya is also passionate about hackathons, a space that blends innovation with hands-on experience. He's participated in multiple hackathons across the company, and proudly shared that he won last year's annual Control Loop team hackathon. Recently, Aditya was a mentor and judge at Berkeley's Cal Hacks. These are a great way to continue his growth through both technical experimentation and leadership. "I'm driven by the excitement of working with the latest technology and helping others achieve their potential," he shared.

But the work isn't over. Aditya is looking to the future and dreaming of ways he can make a greater impact. "I aspire to grow within Splunk by expanding my influence on strategic, cross-organizational projects and focusing on initiatives that reinforce Splunk's commitment to innovation and resilience. I'm excited about the potential to shape the future of cloud infrastructure and guide emerging leaders, making Splunk a place where ambitious engineers thrive and where our technology continues to make a significant impact."
