Hello everyone and welcome to Rideau Hall.

Rideau Hall is located on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people. I am making this acknowledgement out of respect and gratitude for those who have cared for this land for thousands of years.

Congratulations to all recipients of the Meritorious Service Decoration - Military Division and Decorations for Bravery.

This week is about Remembrance.

Recently, I visited the Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial in Northern France.

I was already deeply grateful to our veterans and to all members of the Forces, but during this visit, I became even more aware of the magnitude of military sacrifice.

And of the utmost importance of your work.

In conflicts and on countless missions around the world, members of the Canadian Armed Forces have defended our way of life.

We owe you for the security, freedom and democracy that we enjoy today.

Today, we are honouring your exceptional contributions.

Some of you assisted on perilous search and rescue missions. Others have helped safeguard Canada's North. Others have served abroad, in support of defence efforts in Ukraine, or alongside our allies in NATO, NORAD or the UN.

All of you have served Canada in different ways, with honour, courage, and excellence.

I admire how members of the Canadian Armed Forces support each other through very difficult circumstances.

It's impossible to train for every scenario. Yet, time and again, you show adaptability and a spirit of innovation, continually striving for new heights of excellence.

So, before we read each story aloud, I would like to encourage you to take care of yourselves.

What you do is not easy.

You chose a job that often takes you away from family and friends for long periods of time. A job that might expose you to danger or to disturbing situations.

And these challenges can directly impact your mental health.

So, treat your mental health with the same level of care as your physical health. Be supportive of colleagues and of those under your leadership. Peer support is so important.

Speaking of support, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the military families here with us today. You make tough sacrifices as well, and you are equally vital to the success of the Forces.

As commander-in-chief, I warmly congratulate all recipients on receiving this award.
