Statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors on Mass Shooting in Rochester Hills

Washington, DC-Below is a statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Reno (NV) Mayor Hillary Schieve on today's mass shooting in Rochester Hills, Michigan:

"Today, yet again, a mass shooting has marred what should have been an ordinary summer evening for families spending time at a park. While the details of this horrific act of violence continue to unfold, we know that multiple people, including a child, have been injured. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and the nation's mayors stand with Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett and the Rochester Hills community at this difficult time.

"Day after day, this country endures the pain and suffering wrought by the epidemic of gun violence. We live with the fear that at any moment a celebration, an outing to the grocery store, an evening at the movies or a day at school will be shattered. We do not need to live this way. And so, once again, we are left to ask what will it take for Congress to address this senseless violence that is plaguing far too many American communities? The time to act is now."
