November 15, 2024 // Chance the Rapper is bringing his signature innovation to Miami Art Week this December with the launch ofWritings On The Wall: A Star Line Listening Experience. Running from December 3-6 at Wynwood Studios (567 NW 27th Street), the immersive activation offers fans a multi-sensory preview of his latest artistic project, Star Line. Sessions will be held on Tuesday, December 3; Wednesday, December 4; and Friday, December 6, at 3 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM ET. A session will also be held on Thursday, December 5, at 1 PM ET. A regular at Miami Art Week, Chance returns after a busy 2023 outing that included delivering an Art Basel Conversations talk on Star Line, performing at an event hosted by Ebony Magazine, and holding a pop-up at Dante's. This year, he's back with Writings On The Wall, an immersive exhibit that reimagines how music and art can be experienced.
Throughout his career, Chance the Rapper has consistently defied industry norms, rising to fame as the first artist to do so through SoundCloud and making Grammy history with his streaming-only album Coloring Book. In 2017, he became the first independent artist to win three Grammys without selling a physical album, reshaping how streams are counted toward sales and even helping save SoundCloud from financial trouble, ensuring that future independent artists could share their work. Chance's embrace of new technology and his commitment to providing easy access for fans have transformed both how artists distribute music and how fans engage with it. This bold approach reflects his groundbreaking history, from the charting success of Acid Rap to his decision to remain an independent artist. Originally released in 2013 as a free mixtape, Acid Rap returned to the spotlight in 2019, debuting at #5 on the Billboard 200 and cementing Chance's status as one of the most influential voices of his generation.
Writings On The Wall builds on his legacy of innovation. Throughout 2024, Chance introduced these intimate, tech-driven experiences across North America, offering fans a unique way to engage with Star Line , going beyond a typical listening party. These curated spaces blend art, music, film, and emotion, creating immersive environments that encourage fans to disconnect from their phones and fully engage with the music and visuals around them.
In Miami, attendees will sit on oversized bean bags, don headphones for surround sound listening, and feel the music through subwoofers as lyrics and visuals are projected onto the walls, blending sound with graphic art. Along with hearing unreleased music, they'll view large-scale physical artwork and exclusive cinematography from the Star Line project, in a space designed for reflection and interaction. Fans will also receive notebooks to jot down thoughts and questions, fostering a personal connection to the work and offering a glimpse into Chance's creative process. There will also be an opportunity to purchase exclusive limited Star Line merchandise on-site
Star Line is more than just an album-it's an interdisciplinary exploration of Black life, weaving together music, art, and visual storytelling. Through Writings On The Wall, Chance invites fans into that narrative, offering a transformative experience that blends technology, art, and emotion.
