Joint Press Release on the launch of a Joint Working Group on Trade and the Green Economy

Chile, New Zealand, and Singapore have today announced the establishment of a Joint Working Group on trade and the green economy.

New Zealand Minister for Trade Todd McClay, Singapore Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu and Chilean Under-Secretary for International Economic Relations Claudia Sanhueza Riveros made the announcement today at APEC Leaders' week in Lima, Peru.

Chile, New Zealand and Singapore met on the margins of APEC Leaders' Week to discuss the role of trade in addressing global sustainability challenges including the net zero transition, and explored opportunities to work closer together to enhance cross-border trade and investment in the green economy, and support emerging green sectors.

Under the Joint Working Group, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore will consider proposals for a possible new initiative to enhance international cooperation, and, as appropriate, contribute towards the development of innovative trade policy frameworks to accelerate the uptake and deployment of low-emissions and resource-efficient solutions, production and consumption. Its work will add to multilateral, regional and other plurilateral initiatives in a way that complements them and avoids duplication.

The Joint Working Group will explore and assess possible common grounds on trade-related issues in different areas of the green economy. It will provide recommendations to Ministers in 2025.
