Support Iowa’s future lawyers at the 2024 Regional Middle School Mock Trial Competitions

The Iowa Middle School Mock Trial Program, the largest of its kind in the nation, is gearing up for its 2024 competitions, and your help is needed! This fall, students in grades 6-8 will tackle a challenging legal case, preparing to argue both sides before panels of volunteer lawyers and judges.

The success of this program depends on the dedication of legal professionals like you. Volunteering just a few hours of your time at one of the regional competitions makes a significant difference, as you guide and inspire the next generation of Iowa's legal community. Whether you have experience with mock trials or are new to the process, your expertise is invaluable. Here are the 2024 regional competition dates and locations:

- Thursday, Nov. 7 - Waterloo
- Friday, Nov. 8 - Ames
- Saturday, Nov. 9 - Cedar Rapids
- Tuesday, Nov. 12 - Des Moines
- Wednesday, Nov. 13 - Des Moines

- Friday, Nov. 15 - Mount Vernon

The state tournament will be held from Dec. 2-4 in Des Moines. Check your calendar and sign up to volunteer for a regional competition in your area. Every hour you spend supporting this program strengthens the foundation of future Iowa lawyers.

Volunteer to Judge

If you're interested in learning more about how to score as a volunteer judge, the ISBA has created a helpful video. In the brief video titled "How to Score Mock Trial," Young Lawyers Division Mock Trial Committee Co-chair Olivia Brooks explains everything you need to know, including scoring the mock trial, providing constructive feedback to students, and key aspects judges should focus on.

By volunteering, you are shaping the future of the legal profession. Please consider giving your time and expertise to this vital program.
