Hurricane Milton - City Updates

Hurricane Milton has slowed down and is intensifying. The storm is expected to make landfall on the Westcoast on Wednesday, 9 Oct in the afternoon/evening.

Locally, staff anticipates localized yard and street flooding along with tree debris due to soil saturation and high water levels in both the Indian River Lagoon and St. Johns River.

Based on the current projections here is our updated timing and actions to help address Hurricane Milton:

  • Declaration of a local state of emergency will begin tomorrow Tuesday (8 Oct) at 1200.
  • City operations and storm preparation will continue today through tomorrow Tuesday (8 Oct) at 1500.
  • City normal operations are planned to close both Wednesday (9 Oct) and Thursday (10 Oct) resuming normal operations on Friday (11 Oct).
  • The city emergency operations center is planning a full activation beginning Wednesday (9 Oct) morning at 0800 remaining operational throughout the duration of the storm.

City sandbag operations continues at the city public works facility today Monday (7 Oct) and tomorrow Tuesday (8 Oct) from 0800-1730. Additionally, Brevard County is operating a sand bag operation at Chain of Lakes park today, Monday (7 Oct) from 0800-1800.
