DeLauro Statement on Potential Offshoring of American Union Jobs

Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement on reports that thousands of American jobs could be offshored:

"I am deeply troubled by reports of big corporations like Stellantis potentially offshoring American jobs, a move that would further diminish the U.S. manufacturing base and economic resilience. I stand with the workers impacted by this and urge Stellantis to prioritize protecting American manufacturing jobs.

"As I said in 2019 when we renegotiated NAFTA into the USMCA, we set a floor - not a ceiling. The USMCA established important principles we should build from, but it was never a model for future, worker-centered trade agreements. When we begin the six-year review of the USMCA in the 119th Congress, I will work to strengthen provisions that protect American workers and competitiveness, like accounting for increased Chinese investment in Mexico, improving the Rapid Response Mechanism, and reexamining the digital trade chapter.

"I stand ready to reject any proposal that would harm American workers. Our trade agreements cannot accelerate outsourcing or hurt working people."
