At about 1:17 AM, on Friday, November 8, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Calvin Horne, 38, of Holbrook, on firearm charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of American Legion Highway when they observed a motor vehicle drive past them at a high rate of speed in the opposite direction. Officers were able to turn their cruiser around and observed the vehicle make a left turn onto Blue Hill Avenue.
Officers were able to follow the vehicle and conducted an inquiry of the registration. Officers determined that the vehicle had revoked insurance and was unable to be operated on a public way. Officers activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and slowly came to a complete stop in the area of 19 Wolcott Street.
Officers advised the operator of the reason for the stop and that he needed to exit the vehicle as it would be towed. Officers conducted a motor vehicle inventory search and recovered a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a Phoenix Arms HP22A with ten rounds in the magazine. Officers continued to search the vehicle and recovered five knives with one having brass knuckles affixed to it.
Horne was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm 3rd Offence, Unlawful Possession Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 3rd Offence, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offence, Firearm Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (Brass Knuckles), Carrying a Dangerous Weapon 4th Offence, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Habitual Criminal Penalty Enhancement. Horne was also issued a Massachusetts Motor Vehicle citation for multiple violations of motor vehicle laws.
