ICGEB strives to showcase the quality and global reach of its alumni network, and to provide opportunities for alumni to interact with the current ICGEB student body.
On Saturday, 28 September 2024, in an event entitled "Accessible Intelligence" at the Trieste Next Festival of Research, ICGEB Alumni Dr. Nina Volf, Patent Consultant, De Simone & Partners, Rome, Dr. Giuseppe Marzio, founder and strategic storyteller at Chiaro, The Netherlands, and Dr. Erick Mora, team lead R&D division at Roche Diagnostics Germany, Sannia Farrukh, Science Communicator and ICGEB PhD student explored how the Biotechnology industry can lead to alternative career paths. On Sunday, 27 October 2024 at the Genoa Science Festival, the show entitled "A Touch of Heart to Cure Cancer" (written and performed in Italian), with Serena Zacchigna, ICGEB Cardiovascular Biology Group Leader and Professor at the University of Trieste, along with members of her laboratory, ICGEB alumni Giulio Ciucci and Andrea Colliva, was a great success. Playing to a live audience of well over 100 people, the protagonists recited the journey of their project to develop a wearable robotic device capable of reproducing the heartbeat on cancer-affected tissues. Reminding us of the wealth of expertise that ICGEB alumni constitute, these events have been forerunners of the International Alumni Meeting to be held in Trieste, Italy from 11-13 June 2025. The meeting will include numerous speakers from the Trieste cohort as well as guest speakers from the New Delhi and Cape Town alumni network, and will include sessions on alternative careers, networking and mentoring, as well as on basic science and industry.
The meeting will incorporate the ICGEB Symposium, showcasing current PhD students' research.
