UW and Wyoming SBDC Network to Host Successful Patent Search Webinar Oct. 29

Small-business owners will have the opportunity to learn how to perform a successful patent search Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Anne Kuipers will lead a Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network webinar titled "Unlocking Innovation: How to Perform a Successful Patent Search" from noon-1 p.m. To register, go here.

The Wyoming SBDC Network offers business expertise to help Wyoming residents think about, launch, grow, reinvent or exit their business. The Wyoming SBDC Network is hosted by the University of Wyoming with state funds from the Wyoming Business Council and funded, in part, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The webinar will cover the basics of patents; introduce small-business owners to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) patent database, Patent Public Search; and show attendees how to perform a simple six-step prior art search, which helps determine whether an idea is patentable and provides a solid foundation for moving forward with a patent search. The webinar also will include a brief question-and-answer session, along with information on additional resources and free assistance for navigating the patent process.

Kuiper is the patent and trademark resources librarian at the Wyoming USPTO's Patent and Trademark Resource Center. This is conducted as part of her work as a librarian at the Wyoming State Library.
