New Jersey League of Nursing (NJLN) 2024 Nurse Recognition Awards Program Recognizes Two RWJBarnabas Health Nursing Professionals

The NJLN recently held its 2024 Nurse Recognition and Scholarship Award Program themed "Illuminating Nursing Excellence: An Evening Among the Stars," and awarded two RWJBarnabas Health nursing professionals; Jonathan Anotado Gapilango, MSN, RN, NC-BC, OCN, CCRP, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), and Stephanie Richter, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, NEA-BC, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC), 2024 Nurse Recognition Awards.

Jonathan Gapilango was also awarded a NJLN Scholarship Award. Jonathan has been a nurse for over 30 years, with over 20 years spent in the field of oncology. In 2020, he was appointed Administrative Director of Oncology Performance Measures and Accreditation at RWJUH. He holds three national certifications in oncology, research and administration. He is only the second nurse accepted as a surveyor for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), where all other members are physicians. In addition, to his work at RWJUH, Jonathan is the current President of the Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey. He is a volunteer for the Filipino American Cancer Care Incorporated (F.A.C.C. Inc.) as a member of their Board of Advisors.

Dr. Stephanie Richter is Director, Center for Professional Development, Innovation and Research (CPDIR), at CBMC. She is an experienced Nursing Professional Development Specialist with a demonstrated history of executing initiatives that align with organizational strategic priorities, improving departmental operations, mentoring staff through scholarly inquiry, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Stephanie serves as the nurse vote on CBMC Institutional Review Board and tri-chairs the RWJBH Professional Nursing Practice Council as a strong advocate of professional governance.

The NJLN advances nursing education through continuing education programs for nursing faculty and practicing nurses and offers scholarships for entry level through advanced nursing degrees. The NJLN awards program is a tradition spanning over decades, and the 2024 theme complimented the essence of the program and the NJLN, with 109 years of promoting excellence in nursing education.
