Controller Malia M. Cohen Brings Together County Auditors from Throughout California for the 79th Annual County Auditors Conference and Recognized Award Recipients for Their[...]

SACRAMENTO - Today, State Controller Malia M. Cohen welcomed county auditors from throughout California for a three-day conference in Santa Cruz.

Pursuant to Government Code (GC) 12422, the State Controller shall summon county auditors to meet with the Controller or the Controller's duly authorized representatives, at least once each year, in groups and places within the state as may be designated by the Controller for the purpose of discussion of problems dealing with county budget procedures, reporting of financial transactions of the counties, allocation of property tax revenues, and to promote uniformity of procedure in all matters pertaining to the duties of county auditors, throughout the state. The conference also promotes the working relationship between the State Controller's Office (SCO) and county auditors.

This afternoon, Controller Cohen provided welcoming remarks and moderated a showcase panel with Assemblymember Gail Pellerin (Santa Cruz) and Department of Finance Director Joe Stephenshaw, that focused on the upcoming state budget, the future of technology & innovation, and fiscal challenges that local governments can expect in the upcoming fiscal year.

Controller Cohen also recognized and congratulated counties that received the California State Controller Financial Transaction Reporting Award. This award recognizes counties for accurate and timely financial transaction reports to the State Controller. "I want to congratulate all of the counties receiving today's County Financial Transactions Reporting award," stated Controller Cohen. "Your county's diligence in reporting is critical for my office to produce accurate local government financial data, which is of vital importance to policymakers, researchers, and constituents throughout California. Thank you for your contribution to the quality and transparency of public finances."
