The Greenbuild 2024 Host Committee co-chairs reflect on the conference returning to Philadelphia after more than 10 years.

From Nov. 12 to 15, the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo will return to the City of Brotherly Love for the first time since 2013. Coming at the end of an exciting season for Philadelphians, with football season gearing up in the recently recertified LEED Platinum stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, Greenbuild will be happening in the midst of an exciting time in Philadelphia.

Since 2013, much has changed. You will see new skyscrapers, iconic LEED-certified buildings like the Comcast Center, Passive House-certified affordable housing developments, and new pathways and parkways on both the Delaware and Schuylkill waterfronts. Less visible but no less important are landmark policy shifts, including statewide building energy codes in Pennsylvania and building tune-up requirements here in Philadelphia. The city's new mayor, Cherelle Parker, has committed to carbon reduction as part of her goals for a clean and green Philadelphia.

Can't-miss local tours

There are many impactful projects among this year's Greenbuild tours that reflect the variety of innovation in Philadelphia. In 2025, Greenbuild will highlight 19 tours of outstanding LEED projects on Monday and Friday. For instance, Saint-Gobain's campus in Malvern is an incredible model of innovation in materials, the Comcast Technology Center is a respite in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, and the brand-new University Place 3.0 is an absolute must-see project inside and out. In addition, the Amy Gutmann Hall at the University of Pennsylvania uses mass timber to lower embodied carbon and promote human health and wellness.

There are plenty more: The Sustainability in the Community and Parks tour will showcase the power of government and community support. The Overbrook Environmental Education Center is a brownfield to greenfield success story. Rebuilding of the Cobbs Creek Recreation project was possible because of the City of Philadelphia's Rebuild program. This program prioritizes sites in high-need neighborhoods, as well as sites that are in extremely poor condition.

Networking and celebration

This Greenbuild Gala will be held at the Franklin Institute, an amazing science museum and the center of science education and research in Philadelphia. As the most visited museum in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a top tourist destination in the city of Philadelphia, the Franklin Institute is one of the leading science centers in the country and serves as both a prominent educational and cultural resource and as an anchor of the local economy.

There are plenty of opportunities to network at Greenbuild. If you are unable to purchase a conference pass, we invite you to join us with a complimentary Expo Hall pass. Fill out the form to express interest in a complimentary Expo Hall pass. The pass does not include education sessions.
