Toasty Toddler Registrations Now Open; Donations Being Accepted

Donations and registrations for the Toasty Toddler program are now being accepted through November 8.

The Toasty Toddler Program is a winter coat, hat and glove collection and distribution for children birth through age five. Toasty Toddler began as a collaborative project started by the Blair County Human Service Office, now the Blair County Department of Social Services, to help our youngest children keep warm through the winter months. Referrals are made by education, health care, and social service agencies serving families with young children as well as individuals who call the center looking for help. The Family Resource Center of Blair County under the United Way of the Southern Alleghenies now facilitates the program.

New coats, hats and gloves for children birth through age five are needed in boys and girls sizes newborn, 3,6,9,12,18 and 24 months as well as 2T-5T, 5, 6, 7, 8, and small. Funds may also be donated in order to purchase items.

To date the following program are Public Donation Sites:

Family Resource Center of Blair County and the United Way of the Southern Alleghenies, Altoona Area Public Library, Ashley HomeStore, Blair Dance Academy, Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, Kish Bank, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College-Blair Center, and PA Dept of Health-Blair County State Health Center (both In House and Public)

Altoona Sunrise Rotary, AASD Learning Express Preschool, Blair County Dept. of Social Services, Buccinese Ladies Auxilliary, Central Blair Recreation & Park Commission, Faith United Church of Christ, Penn DOT District 9-0 Hollidaysburg, St. John's Church.

Parents and guardians may register children, birth through age five, by calling the Family Resource Center. They will be asked for contact information, age and gender of child and size needed. Each child will receive a new coat, hat and gloves.

Last year, nearly 600 children were served by over 22 agencies, businesses, schools, churches and civic groups and countless individuals that collected and donated goods and funds. Generally, all children receive a new coat, hat, and gloves or mittens. All funds donated go toward purchasing items for the program. The first distribution is planned for November 16.

To register or donate, please call the Family Resource Center of Blair County, United Way of the Southern Alleghenies, at 814-317-5108, extension 3001.
