Webinar, survey on Meydenbauer Bay Park expansion plans

The Parks & Community Services Department will share prospective designs for the expansion of Meydenbauer Bay Park at a webinar Thursday, Nov. 7, 6-7:30 p.m. on Zoom. There will be a question-and-answer session with the design team following the presentation. An online survey to gather community feedback will be available Nov. 7 to Dec. 15.

Community members will be able to view the designs, learn how community feedback and priorities have been incorporated and ask questions. Survey respondents can enter a raffle for free ice-skating tickets courtesy of the Downtown Bellevue Ice Rink.

With its distinctive curved pier and stunning views, Meydenbauer Bay Park is one of Bellevue's most popular destinations. The first phase of development completed in 2019 added a pier, expanded the beach of the old Meydenbauer Beach Park eightfold and established the beginning of a pedestrian promenade.

For the past year and a half, the city has been planning for a second phase of development to better connect the existing park to downtown by expanding south along the shore toward the intersection of 100th Avenue Northeast and Lake Washington Boulevard.

In meetings and surveys, residents and people who work and play in Bellevue have shared a strong desire for improved amenities, additional parking, and more accessible pedestrian and water access. Community priorities have informed the updated designs for the park's expansion, including more greenery and seating, flexible covered spaces and visible meandering paths down to the shoreline.

The second phase of development is also consistent with the 2010 Meydenbauer Bay Park and Land Use Plan. At the conclusion of this design phase, construction and permitting documents will be developed. Construction is anticipated to take place in phases based on community priorities, feasibility, and funding availability.
