WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) responded to the election results and the incoming Trump-Vance Administration.

AILA President, Kelli Stump, stated, "The fact is that America is a nation that has greatly benefitted from immigration. For nearly 80 years, AILA has worked in a bipartisan manner, offering the expertise of our members who know the law to help craft policies that promote a fair and just immigration system, one which reflects the values upon which our country was founded. Today, we affirm that commitment to our members, communities, and the nation: to continue our work. AILA members represent nurses, farm workers, construction workers, teachers, computer programmers, and so many more, who are essential for our nation to thrive. Today our jobs may have just gotten harder, but AILA stands united as we continue to help our members fight for their clients and their families."

AILA Executive Director Benjamin Johnson agreed, stating, "Unfortunately, misinformation and dehumanizing rhetoric about immigrants-and the vital role immigration has played in America's success-contributed to the outcome of this election. The economy was clearly top of mind for many voters, and we should all understand the absolutely vital role immigrants play in sustaining American businesses and advancing our nation's prosperity. If implemented, the anti-immigrant policies avowed by Candidate Trump will inflict lasting damage to the American economy, communities, and character. AILA and its more than 16,000 members will continue to defend the Constitution and stand against laws and policies that violate due process, undermine civil rights, or denigrate the contributions of immigrants. Our future prosperity depends on not giving up. We must stand together and work towards a brighter future."
