Argall, Barton Announce More than $1.4 Million in Community and Economic Development State Grants

HARRISBURG - State grants totaling more than $1.4 million were awarded to communities in eastern Schuylkill County for key infrastructure projects today. State Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and state Rep. Jamie Barton (R-124) worked with local leaders to secure this highly competitive funding.

"Towns and neighborhoods in all corners of Schuylkill County will benefit from this funding," said Argall.

"Our municipalities have so many projects in the works trying to make our area a better place to live," Barton said. "Unfortunately, many of these projects are very expensive, and our townships and boroughs don't always have enough cash on hand. That's why I'm proud to have worked with Sen. Argall to bring funding back to our area."

• Deer Lake Borough was awarded $700,000 to begin to repair Deer Lake Dam. The dam was constructed in 1925 and has begun deteriorating.
• New Ringgold Borough was awarded $100,000 to support the widening of the intersection at Routes 443 and 895.
• Port Clinton Borough was awarded $177,353 to relocate a sewer force main near the Broad Street Bridge.
• Ryan Township was awarded $69,639 to purchase a UTV to respond to emergency situations on state game lands.
• Tamaqua Borough, on behalf of Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, was awarded $79,444 to restore the façade of a fire-damaged historic building at 117 West Broad Street.
• West Penn Township was awarded $290,360 to purchase a new asphalt paver.

This funding was awarded through the Statewide Local Share Account program, which distributes gaming revenue to projects that support community and economic development.
