MaineGeneral Health's Peter Alfond Prevention & Heathy Living Center (PAPHLC) is pleased to announce the restart of the Colby College Walking Program. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was suspended for several years.
"We are excited to offer this program again so the community has access to a safe, warm facility to keep active during the winter months," said Anne Conners, director of MaineGeneral Health's Community Health Department and the PAPHLC. "We are grateful for Colby College and PAPHLC volunteers for making this community asset a success."
The Colby College Walking Program is for those age 55 and older. Located at the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center on the Colby College campus, community members may walk from Nov. 4, 2024 through April 10, 2025, Monday through Thursday, 9 - 11 a.m. The facility is closed during Colby College breaks: Nov. 25 - 28 and Dec. 23 - Jan. 1.
Participants must register onsite with a volunteer on their first visit. No minors or pets are allowed. Soft-soled shoes are required, and no outside shoes may be worn on the track. If Waterville schools are closed due to inclement weather, the walking program also will close. Students and faculty use the facility at the same time. Participants must park in the Athletic Parking Lot next to the Biomass Plant and the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center and use the front entrance.
