East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after Black students in Bloomfield received a seriesof racist and threatening anonymous text messages.
"To see middle school students in Bloomfield targeted by racist and threatening anonymous messages is nothing short of reprehensible," said Larson. "All students must be able to feel safe at home, in the classroom, and on the internet, and no one should ever be targeted because of who they are. It is especially disturbing to see this was not a remote or isolated incident, with Black students across the country reporting that they received similar text messages. I completely stand behind law enforcement's efforts to investigate these hateful threats and hope to see the perpetrators brought to justice. I join with our Attorney General, William Tong, who has made it clear there will be no tolerance for this type of hate in the State of Connecticut. While extremists may aim to divide us with their hate, diversity will always remain our strength as Americans."
