Minister Radosław Sikorski talks with Sweden’s Parliament Speaker

The two officials highlighted that the long and flourishing cooperation between Sweden and Poland has recently gained in intensity due to threats in direct neighbourhood and as a result of Sweden's accession to NATO.

As the initiators of the Eastern Partnership, Stockholm and Warsaw seek to enhance cooperation for the benefit of Ukraine and in regard to partners in the east. It was noted that Russia must bear the consequences of the criminal acts it has been committing as an aggressor, while international law must be observed. The outcome of the war will shape the global order, and especially security in the Baltic Sea region, for years to come.

The head of Polish diplomacy emphasised that contacts with Swedish partners, both bilateral and multilateral, have been excellent.

Minister Sikorski said that Poland is interested in regional cooperation with Nordic and Baltic states, including in the Council of the Baltic Sea States and other Baltic formats. Such cooperation helps to better coordinate Polish policies with the key challenges in the region, including hybrid threats, disinformation, or the shadow fleet in the Baltic.

Also discussed were the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, with a particular focus on the security aspect. The interlocutors agreed that Sweden and Poland must cooperate to counter Belarusian and Russian use of illegal migration in an attempt to destabilise the political situation in the European Union.

Speaker Andreas Norlén of the Swedish parliament came to Poland for an official two-day visit.
