Argentina and the Dominican Republic strengthen bilateral ties at the II Meeting of Political Consultations

On October 18, Argentina and the Dominican Republic held in Santo Domingo the II Meeting of Political Consultations through which they committed to strengthening their friendship and cooperation through constructive dialogue, advancing in the effective implementation of existing agreements and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.

The meeting was headed by the Under Secretary for American Affairs of the Argentine Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Mariano Vergara, and the Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy of the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, José Julio Gómez.

Durign the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing promoting their economic and trade relations, of which they highlighted both their current importance and their potential.

At the regional level, the delegations agreed to maintain regular political communication to coordinate actions and efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean. Under Secretary Vergara underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation among countries that promote democracy and the rule of law. Vice Minister Gómez highlighted the future X Summit of the Americas to be held in Santo Domingo in 2025, whose objectives will focus on strengthening hemispheric cooperation. They also recognized the impact of the crisis in Haiti on regional security and urged the international community to redouble its efforts to strengthen the Multinational Security Support Mission in that country.

Under Secretary Vergara expressed his gratitude to the Dominican Republic for its valuable and historic support to Argentina's sovereignty rights over the Malvinas, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.

In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Argentina's Foreign Service Institute (Instituto del Servicio Exterior de la Nación, ISEN) and the Institute of Higher Education in Diplomatic and Consular Training of the Dominican Foreign Ministry to promote cooperation in the training of diplomatic personnel of both parties.
