Michigan Veteran Homes to Honor Heroes During Veterans Day Activities

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan Veteran Homes has announced its upcoming schedule of Veterans Day activities to honor its veteran members and all who've served our nation.

Michigan Veteran Homes at Chesterfield Township (MVHCT) will be visited by students from Naldrett Elementary at 10 a.m. on Veterans Day where they will sing patriotic songs to veteran members. In partnership with CorsoCare, the Home will host a Veterans Day recognition ceremony at 2 p.m. with remarks led by Jessi Hall; Bryon "Kip" Brand, a U.S. Air Force veteran and president of the MVHCT Member Council; and Mark Theisen, a retired U.S. Marine veteran. American Legion Post #4 will post the colors and provide a 21-gun salute. A special dessert bar will be served and sponsored by Got Your Six, a Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Employee Resource Group, and Cindy Rue, a Michigan Air National Guard veteran and community liaison for Region 4a for the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency. A special candlelight luncheon and veteran member tribute will follow the ceremony at noon. There will be a music performance at 7:00 p.m. by Joe and Jim DeHenau.

Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids (MVHGR) in partnership with Zero Day will host their Veterans Day 5 Remembrance 0.5-Mile Walk/Roll, 5K and 5-Mile Run on November 9. Event check-in will take place beginning at 7:15 a.m. The Kent County Honor Guard will present the colors while Army Veteran Danielle Engle will sing the national anthem. The 5-mile run will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8:50 a.m. and the 0.5-mile remembrance walk at 9 a.m. Participants, volunteers and spectators are invited to join veteran members and staff in the Home's bistro for the SpartanNash Community Pancake Breakfast from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. Race participants, volunteers and veteran members will receive complimentary breakfast courtesy of SpartanNash while guests are asked to make a minimum $5 donation to MVHGR. On Monday, November 11, MVHGR will host several events for veteran members. The day will begin with a waffle bar at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Belmont Armory 126th Army Band Woodwind Ensemble performing at 10:30 a.m. A special dessert bar will be served and sponsored by Got Your Six, a Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Employee Resource Group. MVH was selected by the mVets Meijer Team Member Resource Group as a cause worth supporting through the 'Meijer Team Gives' program and will present a check to veteran members for $5,000 at 11:15 a.m. The band Big Cadillac will perform for veteran members at 1:30 p.m.

Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MVHDJJ) will host a special Veterans Day dinner from dietary services and a special dessert provided by Upper Peninsula Home Health & Hospice. Due to several veteran members feeling under the weather, this year's festivities will be limited.
