RPD Sends Officers, Resources to Areas Impacted by Hurricane Helene

Raleigh Police Department officers and staff will help with law enforcement and recovery efforts in western North Carolina, specifically the Black Mountain area. A total of 39 RPD employees deployed on Friday.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene's devastating impact, RPD has worked closely with county and state partners to coordinate the deployment of personnel and resources to the western part of the state. Personnel from 13 counties and multiple agencies are involved in this effort.

The deployed members will remain in western North Carolina until they are relieved by a second contingent of RPD officers and staff. Each team comprises highly skilled and trained members committed to answering the call for relief and support.

"We are proud of the nearly 150 members who are volunteering to assist in the rescue and recovery missions," said Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson. "Our mission is to provide relief and support to public safety in Black Mountain."

RPD is equally proud of those remaining in Raleigh. They will continue to serve the community and backfill assignments for those deployed.
