ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University awarded three graduating seniors the President's Award for Academic Excellence during the Dec. 14 Commencement ceremony. The award is given to students who have the highest GPA of their graduating class.
The trio accepted their awards on the Winthrop Coliseum stage from President Edward Serna '02.
They are:
*Sera Crookes of Taylors, South Carolina, graduated with a triple major in political science, psychology and French. She served as editor-in-chief of the Roddey-McMillan Record and worked as a resident assistant and tutor in the Academic Success Center. Crookes participated in the Model United Nations program, winning some awards in collegiate competitions. With a goal of becoming a college professor, she is applying to graduate schools.
*Erin Dinlocker of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, received her degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare management. A member of the Upsilon Phi Delta, Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies, she served as president of the Healthcare Management Student Association. She is applying to graduate schools to pursue a Master of Health Administration degree.
*Will Elliot of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, earned a design/technical degree in the Department of Theatre and Dance. He worked in a variety of productions at Winthrop, including as lighting and sound designer. He will continue his work with the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees and the Matthews Playhouse, and wants to work as a technical designer.
