FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS AG Joins the Altair Partner Alliance

December 17, 2024 -

Altair is pleased to welcome FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS AG as the latest addition to the Altair Partner Alliance (APA). Within the APA, FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS will offer its flagship software product CAESES, an integration and automation platform that includes simulation-ready variable CAD, optimization algorithms, and post-processing. Users can utilize CAESES together with other simulation tools - most often in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) - to design and develop better products faster and more cost effectively.

CAESES provides users with unique capabilities to efficiently and smartly parametrize very complex geometries, e.g., with free-form surfaces, that are typically challenging to parameterize in traditional CAD tools, as well as a robust platform for their flexible and controlled variation. CAESES' geometry parameterization and variation capabilities will allow users to intelligently investigate large design spaces in a data- or simulation-driven design approach in an unprecedented way.

Several of CAESES' top features include:

  • Parametric Modeling: Smart, efficient parameterization of even the most complex geometries (e.g., free-form shapes), suited for automated generation of geometry variants.
  • Geometry Morphing: Modification of imported geometries through a toolbox of flexible, easy-to-use morphing methods.
  • Constraint Handling: Consideration of geometrical constraints (such as those due to manufacturing or packaging reasons) to ensure feasible design variants.
  • Simulation-Ready Export: Geometry export that can directly be fed to coupled simulation tools without manual preparation steps, for frictionless process automation.
  • Simulation Interfacing: Open, user-configurable interface to couple to arbitrary external simulation tools.
  • Optimization: Wide selection of optimization algorithms and methods for design studies and geometry processing.

Thanks to CAESES' capabilities, users can:

  • Reduce the number of necessary parameters to describe a complex shape, saving time in the optimization process.
  • Consider shape details and features that couldn't be handled before.
  • Run large-scale parameter studies without robustness issues when generating geometry variants.
  • Ensure those variants, as well as the optimized geometry, will fulfill all necessary manufacturability requirements.
  • Experience more freedom in choosing how to approach certain tasks thanks to CAESES' extensive toolbox and customizability.

Within the APA, users will gain access to the full functionality package of CAESES, including the Standard Edition package, as well as the Turbo, Maritime, Propeller, and Advanced Optimization add-ons. CAESES is used in an array of industries, primarily in applications such as turbomachines, ducts and manifolds, engine components, aerodynamic bodies, ship hulls, and more.

"Joining the APA allows us to make CAESES more easily available to a broader audience of simulation and data experts looking to improve and simplify their simulation and optimization work," said Mattia Brenner, chief revenue officer, FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS. "The power of CAESES will allow users of all kinds to enjoy the powerful benefits of simulation- and data-driven design at a whole new level."

FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Potsdam, Germany. Started as a spin-off from the Technical University Berlin, the company is passionate about advising and supporting customers in creating high-performance products through parametric geometry and simulation-driven design processes. In particular, the company focuses on the creation of efficient geometry models and the automation of geometry generation for design explorations and shape optimization. With its many years of experience in the field of flow-related shape optimization and with its CAESES software, the company provides solutions for virtually every challenge that engineers and designers encounter when establishing an optimization process.
