Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) rose to the top against stiff competition to earn the 2024 Harvard Business Review, Global Traditional Chinese Edition "Ding-Ge Award" for Digital Transformation.TIPC becomes the only public enterprise received this honor and highly recognized by the panel of adjudicators.

The Ding-Ge Award for Digital Transformation was established in 2021 by the internationally respected Harvard Business Review publishing group in recognition of the critical importance of digital transformation to industries and businesses in keeping pace with the rapid changes now shaping the global business environment. Entrants for the Ding-Ge Award are evaluated in terms of their success in promoting digital transformation internally, with awards given to recognize companies achieving the most outstanding performance in their sectors. With a total of 230 entrants this year, TIPC made a significant impression on the awards panel, receiving the award on its very first attempt. TIPC's submission used its recent implementation of an AIoT-based service solution for the efficient handling of vessel arrivals and departures to spotlight the strongly positive impacts of innovation and service optimization within the TIPC Port Group.

In a statement, TIPC noted that today's rapidly evolving international ocean shipping market regularly presents ports with a myriad of challenges that must be effectively addressed and resolved. In recent years, the company has promoted a series of innovative smart-port applications, installed AIoT facilities providing comprehensive port management capabilities, and implemented automated data transfer and analysis procedures. These and other initiatives demonstrate TIPC's strategic leveraging of current technologies to enhance operational resilience and of digital information to add value to port service experiences. Looking ahead, TIPC will continue working closely with its port industry partners to optimize the smart and sustainable development of Taiwan's ports.

The AIoT-based service solution for streamlining vessel arrivals and departures project spotlighted in TIPC's Ding-Ge Award submission is an important TIPC client-centered service initiative and a key milestone on the path to achieving state-of-the-art smart port status. Related services use an array of AIoT, big data, and artificial intelligence applications to help vessel operators and port staff ensure vessel navigation safety and access and track the real-time status of wharves to raise cargo handling efficiencies and strengthen internal and external communications. The resulting improvements in information sharing, operational safety, and service efficiencies are expect to all help make Taiwan's international commercial port operations even more sustainable. In addition, the smart energy management systems currently being installed at TIPC's seven largest ports will facilitate the continuous monitoring of port energy use, with upcoming projects to make ports power self-sufficient and further raise power use efficiency expected to create a solid platform for long-term, sustainable port operations.

In addition, in the interests of fostering a robust, forward-facing port industry ecosystem in Taiwan, TIPC actively invites companies to make use of Taiwan's international commercial ports as testing / proving grounds for innovative port-related tech applications. TIPC also directly partners with firms in the ICT sector to develop and implement port-specific applications as well as continues through its "Port Business Digital Transformation Incentive Program" to encourage port businesses to adopt and utilize innovative digital service solutions.
