Time is running out to join FDNY EMS as filing period closes on Nov. 26

November 15, 2024

The FDNY is recruiting candidates from across New York City for its Emergency Medical Services with the filing period open until the end of the November.

The filing period for both certified EMTs and EMT trainees closes on Nov. 26, 2024. The FDNY will pay trainees as they learn to become EMTs. FDNY EMS offers excellent health benefits, a stable work schedule, a pension and tremendous promotional opportunities.

FDNY Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields said being an EMT is not easy, but it is rewarding.

"It is, indeed, a calling," said Chief Fields, who is a 30-year veteran of the FDNY. "There are tough days, long hours and challenging responses. The men and women of the FDNY's EMS are on the front lines, standing shoulder to shoulder with all the other first responders daily. You see heartbreak and you feel hopeless-and yet, it is your calling that pushes you through those hard times. It is your calling that keeps you coming back in service of our city, our communities, and our neighbors in their moments of crisis."
