City’s strong fiscal position, economic trends and Sober Living Task Force discussed Tuesday

The City Council on Tuesday received updates on the City's strong fiscal position as well as economic and fiscal trends and the proactive work of the California Sober Living and Recovery Task Force.

The good news on the City's fiscal front is that General Fund Actual Operating Revenues exceeded budgeted estimates by $3.3 million and General Fund Actual Operating Expenditures were less than budgeted appropriations in the amount of $5.7 million as detailed by Director of Administrative Services Cheryl Dyas regarding the Fiscal Year 23/24 Close Out Report.

Council Members also received a report from Victus Advisors regarding an economic and fiscal impact analysis on 11 sporting events held over the past year at Lake Mission Viejo, Saddleback College, Marguerite Aquatics Complex and various City sports parks and their economic effect on the community.

During another presentation, Council Members received an update on recent efforts and viewed a powerful video from the California Sober Living and Recovery Task Force.

In addition, the Council proclaimed October 20-26 as Friends of Libraries Week. Since our library opened in 1997, the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library has raised more than $3 million to provide resources for library materials; the summer reading program; Writers Present series; and other programs and special events throughout the year.

City Council meetings take place on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
