11/18/2024 - Upcoming Project: Westside Bike Corridor

Upcoming Project: Westside Bike Corridor
We are building a new bike corridor which will connect northwest and southwest Olympia to Woodruff Park and Garfield Elementary School. Construction is planned for 2025.

Bike corridors are routes on low-traffic streets with signs and pavement markings to show they are good streets for bicycling. Where they cross busy streets, we change the intersections to make them easier for pedestrians and bicyclists to cross.

Planned changes
  • Add signs and pavement markings to guide bicyclists along the route of the new bike corridor.
  • Build a new pathway through Woodruff Park to connect Thomas and Perry Streets, so bicyclists can cross Harrison at a traffic signal.
  • Improve the crossing on Harrison Avenue by updating the crosswalk markings, adding accessible pedestrian signals, and adding camera detection to better detect bicyclists waiting to cross.
  • Change the direction of stop signs in a few places to improve the efficiency of the route.
This project will create better conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians. It will also connect people with a wider range of cycling abilities to destinations such as parks, nearby grocery stores, and a school.
