United Nations in Vienna, exhibition on the fight against transnational organised crime

On the occasion of the Conference of the Parties to the Palermo Convention (United Nations Convention against Transnational Organised Crime), Italy promoted an exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna illustrating our country's experience in the fight against transnational organised crime, organised by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Internal Affairs and Justice. Through a journey of evocative images, the exhibition illustrates some crucial phases in the fight against the Mafia; the role played by judges Flacone and Borsellino; the reaction to the 1992 massacres; the path that led to the adoption of the Palermo Convention, as well as international cooperation activities and future challenges.

Inaugurated by Justice Minister Nordio and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the exhibition also marks the beginning of a month of mobilisation in view of the first International Day against Transnational Organised Crime (15 November), established this year, at Italy's initiative, by a General Assembly resolution.
