Published on October 04, 2024

Denver - Friday, October 4, 2024 - During the past weekend, the Denver Police Department (DPD) conducted a street racing operation with the goal of locating and arresting any individuals engaging in illegal racing activities. On September 29, 2024, Denver Police officers received information that a group of street racers were meeting outside of Denver and were going to travel north on I-25 towards Denver. At approximately 12:45 a.m., DPD officers spotted a group of vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on I-25 near the Lincoln/Broadway exit. DPD officers approached the group of vehicles and observed two motorists driving side by side that took off at a high rate of speed - engaging in a street race.

DPD officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the two vehicles. The driver of one vehicle fled from officers. The second driver was stopped near northbound I-25 and East Colfax Avenue, and the driver was cited with Speed Contest, Driving without a Valid Driver's License, and Driving without Insurance. Her vehicle was impounded in accordance with Denver's Public Nuisance ordinance.

Street racing is not only dangerous for the involved drivers, but also creates the potential to harm or kill others who are not involved. Potential penalties the driver faces are jailtime and court costs, along with the potential to have their vehicle seized.
